An error occurred while saving the comment Kris Goncalves commentedyes, and "relatedListItem" has a similar setup (provides sort order which is accurate even though ordering returned is random by Salesforce). This would eliminate some massive false diffs in the layout metadata type.

definitely a great idea. With source control, we want the flexibility to deploy new reports/dashboards/list views we may build but don't have all of that metadata in source control as it's changed by end users in production as well.
