  1. Allow the ability to "uncheck" No DIfference items on the Selected Items tab

When cloning previous deployments, there are may cases where items may have been previously deployed, so the now would show as "No Difference". Currently these items can not be unselected for the deployment. It would be useful to be able to remove these from a current deployment to keep the deployment clean.

  2. Deployment count in the blue banner wrong for old deployments

When viewing old/past deployment details, that old deployment shows me the big blue banner saying that ---this--- was our {insert total number of deployments ever}th deployment no matter which old deployment I'm viewing.

This confused me a bit because I wanted to view our say 5th deployment ever so expected the number to say this was our 5th deployment, and I ended up closing the details browser tab twice thinking I pressed the wrong button to view the latest deployment. Yeah I could have looked at the tiny timestamp somewhere on that details view, but this large blue banner/counter just…

  3. Make "Clone package" openable in a new tab

In Deployment history, there are two buttons I use the "view details" which I can open in a new tab without leaving the list of deployments, and the "clone package" which I can't open in a new tab. I can workaround it easily (duplicate tabs, or first view details then clone from there), but it was disappointing that I have to.

I needed to re-deploy say 10 deployments into a different sandbox and so the clone package feature was amazingly useful, but this little nag prevented me from entering the blissful nirvana of wielding the perfect tool for the job…

  5. Pending Validation - Copy from Pending Deployment

Similar to "Pending Deployments" It would be nice to see pending validations. We have several users in gearset, so if we are trying to validate something while someone has already initiated a validation, we receive the error that set up has been locked. So prior to validating a package, it would be great to check if anyone is in the process.

  6. Show rows that have no set "Changed On" date when applying a date filter.

Currently the moment you deselect a single specific date, all blank dates are also filtered out.

I would expect only the items with the given date be removed from the list.

This has become apparent now that the sort order of dates in the pulldown bug has been fixed.

  7. Allow PMD to be configured by uploading a xml file with rules

We use PMD locally in our IDEs to analyse during development, and the whole team shares a rule file in xml. It excludes the ones we don't like and configures other rules.

We can configure Gearset to do the same through the UI, but I'd rather be able to just upload the file, then I will know they are the same set of rules.

  8. show which deployment each metadata was a part of when doing a bulk clone.

When doing a bulk clone, each metadata should show what previous deployment it was a part of as to allow us to verify that the bulk clone worked. Another use case is that it would allow us to find a deployment we know has changed and be able to remove or change the metadata quickly.

  9. Extend the ability to add and delete in a single deployment to all metadata types

We just came across an issue in which we were deploying an HTML email template that had been moved from one folder to another in the source environment.

When deploying, only the delete happened on the first deploy. I needed to do a second deploy to handle the addition.

While probably not a common case, it's certainly important as the initial deployment reports that the addition was successful.

  10. More Details for Open Draft Deployments: Show Name & Refresh Date

When you open a Draft Deployment it would be great to see its name on the deployment page as well as its refresh date. I understand that when you open a draft deployment you're seeing a snapshot from when it was created or refreshed.

  11. integrate with Atlassian Stride for notifications

Gearset's ability to send notifications to Slack is great. I'd like a similar ability to send notifications to Atlassian's Slack alternative - Stride.

  12. Zapier Integration

An integration with Zapier will allow more customizations options for how we can integrate with other tools, such as Manuscript (fka FogBugz).

  13. Access to Jira custom fields

we have a custom field we use that ties to a release number. It would be great if as an additional option to selecting tickets, access this field, set the value (in this case our release number) and have gearset pull all related requests in.

  14. Cache deployment inspection results

It would be great if deployment inspection results were cached, such that the results for an identical set of metadata are available without spending the time to recheck everything.

Use case: A comparison is performed and all changes selected. Deployment inspection is performed and recommendations are made for items to add/exclude. I select a subset of recommendations, and move forward with validation. The validation fails. The same comparison is reopened and again all metadata is selected (with the intention of selecting more of the add/export recommendations resulting from the inspection). At this point, the inspection is rerun, even though the…

  15. Deploy parts of Settings

It would be nice if you broke up the settings into smaller subcomponents. For example the Security settings would be more useful if you extract out the password policy changes so we can pick and choose what Security settings we need. I thought of this concept similar to how you break up profiles into sub component. This could get noisey in the list of changes so an alternative to that could be to bundle it under components like how CustomObjects work.

  16. Add a note against individual components in a draft deployment

While comparing two Org's for differences and saving the 'Draft deployment':

    1. Files that I'm sure and fine with the differences and happy - so tick them.

    2. Files that are important to be deployed but I am yet to discuss those differences with some peers from team (dev / support). I would like to mark these (or / and) comment against these - with some useful notes (ex: impact or risk analysis related notes). Once these are discussed, I can then tick them - indicating I am happy to deploy these.

Once I mark the files as either 1 or 2…

  17. Ability to have automated process to maintain field list in Production environment

With GDPR, companies are required to provide justifications for all data that they collect. In Salesforce this means being able to identify why all fields in the system exists, categorize fields as PI, and provide business justifications. The ability to keep a list of current fields in a production instance of Salesforce that includes alerts when new items are added, or ability to sync that list out to another tool like Smartsheet, where other business users like a legal team would have visibility, would be incredibly useful.

  18. Add an option to use a custom "Gearset format" for the source control output

The XML that comes from Salesforce is weirdly bundled together. When changes are made it's really hard to reconcile two branches in source control when merging.

When comparing, Gearset nicely decomposes changes into smaller chunks. So instead of putting that back into the usual XML, an option to store that "internal format" and even just stick it as JSON or similar.

After all - it'll be Gearset reading it back in to compare to an org next time, and smaller changes will be easier to merge as they won't conflict inside horrendously large XML files

  19. Filter Notifications for Non-CI Deployments By Successful or Not

When I do a deployment that is not a CI deployment, it can send an email. But the email goes out regardless if the deployment is successful. I would like to be able to send the email ONLY if the deployment is successful.

  20. Provide link from standard field to Standard Value Set

Some of the standard picklist fields in Salesforce have their values defined in Standard Value Sets. This means when you add a new value in the Salesforce UI, for example in the Type field of the Case object, that you are actually editing the CaseType Standard Value Set and not the Case Custom Object.

Gearset detects all these differences, but it isn't obvious why Case.Type appears as unchanged in a Gearset comparison. It would be better if Gearset showed some help text in the Case.Type object definition that pointed me to some help docs or linked me to the exact…
