  1. Better Targeted Static Code Analysis Feedback Surpression

Currently, if I want to suppress errors from static analysis, the suppression seems to be all-or-none at the class level.

I would prefer to suppress only the specific errors when they happen.
(e.g. in the method or in the line.)

    Hi!

Our static code analysis is built on PMD. Currently, the only error suppression that works with Apex code in PMD is the `@SuppressWarnings` annotation. (This was introduced for Apex in PMD version 6.0.0). As you say, you can suppress all rules, or specific rules, at the class level, but can’t make more fine grained suppressions, unfortunately.

There are other methods of suppressing errors within PMD for other languages, but these don’t currently work with Apex. We’ll keep an eye on future versions of PMD to see if they introduce new methods of suppressing warnings for Apex code.

  2. Show rows that have no set "Changed On" date when applying a date filter.

Currently the moment you deselect a single specific date, all blank dates are also filtered out.

I would expect only the items with the given date be removed from the list.

This has become apparent now that the sort order of dates in the pulldown bug has been fixed.

  3. show which deployment each metadata was a part of when doing a bulk clone.

When doing a bulk clone, each metadata should show what previous deployment it was a part of as to allow us to verify that the bulk clone worked. Another use case is that it would allow us to find a deployment we know has changed and be able to remove or change the metadata quickly.

  4. Extend the ability to add and delete in a single deployment to all metadata types

We just came across an issue in which we were deploying an HTML email template that had been moved from one folder to another in the source environment.

When deploying, only the delete happened on the first deploy. I needed to do a second deploy to handle the addition.

While probably not a common case, it's certainly important as the initial deployment reports that the addition was successful.

  5. Test run details: show failed tests tab first

When user clicks on test run details, Gearset defaults to the successes tab. But no one clicks on test Run details to see successes; they want to see failures. Default tab should be failures, especially if non-zero

Saves user a click and supports DWIM - "do what I mean" when clicking Test Run Details

  6. Implement public key authentication for source control

Implement public key authentication for source control.

Allow Gearset to generate a public/private key pair, and expose the public key for use in authentication to source control.

  7. More Details for Open Draft Deployments: Show Name & Refresh Date

When you open a Draft Deployment it would be great to see its name on the deployment page as well as its refresh date. I understand that when you open a draft deployment you're seeing a snapshot from when it was created or refreshed.

  8. Zapier Integration

An integration with Zapier will allow more customizations options for how we can integrate with other tools, such as Manuscript (fka FogBugz).

  9. Cache deployment inspection results

It would be great if deployment inspection results were cached, such that the results for an identical set of metadata are available without spending the time to recheck everything.

Use case: A comparison is performed and all changes selected. Deployment inspection is performed and recommendations are made for items to add/exclude. I select a subset of recommendations, and move forward with validation. The validation fails. The same comparison is reopened and again all metadata is selected (with the intention of selecting more of the add/export recommendations resulting from the inspection). At this point, the inspection is rerun, even though the…

  10. integrate with Atlassian Stride for notifications

Gearset's ability to send notifications to Slack is great. I'd like a similar ability to send notifications to Atlassian's Slack alternative - Stride.

  11. Ability to have automated process to maintain field list in Production environment

With GDPR, companies are required to provide justifications for all data that they collect. In Salesforce this means being able to identify why all fields in the system exists, categorize fields as PI, and provide business justifications. The ability to keep a list of current fields in a production instance of Salesforce that includes alerts when new items are added, or ability to sync that list out to another tool like Smartsheet, where other business users like a legal team would have visibility, would be incredibly useful.

  12. When source is local files, Refresh Comparison button should be smarter

If your source is Local files, and you do a Compare to some target, and then realize the source needs to be amended before re-comparing, your "training" is to clock "Refresh Comparison" button.

This executes but does not ask you to upload new source files so essentially nothing happens.

User should be given option to upload new folder/zip.

  13. Add an option to use a custom "Gearset format" for the source control output

The XML that comes from Salesforce is weirdly bundled together. When changes are made it's really hard to reconcile two branches in source control when merging.

When comparing, Gearset nicely decomposes changes into smaller chunks. So instead of putting that back into the usual XML, an option to store that "internal format" and even just stick it as JSON or similar.

After all - it'll be Gearset reading it back in to compare to an org next time, and smaller changes will be easier to merge as they won't conflict inside horrendously large XML files

  14. Filter Notifications for Non-CI Deployments By Successful or Not

When I do a deployment that is not a CI deployment, it can send an email. But the email goes out regardless if the deployment is successful. I would like to be able to send the email ONLY if the deployment is successful.

  15. CI job status "deploying" - add dateTime

    UX suggestion:
    On the CI jobs page...

Currently - you see last run dateTime followed by "deploying...." if a job is currently in progress

Suggestion: Add the dateTime when job started so user can gauge when job should finish and set expectations accordingly

For example, in our shop, a CI job should take around 20 minutes - but if you can;t tell when it started, you can't gauge when it will finish and plan your work accordingly

  16. Add an Ignore option for change alerts

Sometimes metadata comes back from Salesforce in a different order, which makes it look like there was a change when there really wasn't any. It would be nice to have a way to flag such comparisons as Ignored so I know I looked at them and decided that they didn't need to have any further action.

  17. refresh comparison UX - echo the filter used in the original comparison

When you click Refresh Comparison, the dialog does not echo anywhere the original filter name used in the comparison-being-refreshed. You just get a x/y filters being used.

Always good to remind the user as to which filters were originally selected without having to scroll through the list

  19. In comparison mode, remember whether I want to see the XML view or a friendlier view of the object I'm looking at.

I noticed that the non-XML option label changes depending on what type of object I'm looking at. Regardless, if I select the non-XML option in comparison mode, I'd like the site to remember that option during my session so I don't have to keep re-clicking the non-XML option for each line item.

  20. Avoid Analyzer suggesting to deploy a workflow's Sobject when such SObject and all referenced fields exists in the target

    Use case:
    1. Deploy from source to target a changed Workflow (from active to deactivated)
    2. Target already has all of the workflow's referenced components (fields used in filter criteria, fields used in Field Update)

Analyzer will tell you "Add the following to the deployment" and something that looks like:

    Deploy All
    - object.WfName
    -- object and its subcomponents
    -- object and its subcomponents
    -- object and its subcomponents

Since the object is already in the target as are the subcomponents, this message is alarmingly misleading and could inadvertently lead to deploying an object not yet ready.

    The above message…
